Concussion (mTBI)

A concussion, categorized as a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), is a functional brain injury caused by a jolt or blow that makes the brain move rapidly within the skull. This movement creates a "metabolic crisis" where the brain's demand for energy outpaces its supply while the cells are physically stretched. Unlike a helmet that protects the skull from fractures, brain safety requires addressing this internal movement. When the brain strikes the interior skull wall, it disrupts neural firing and can lead to a range of immediate symptoms.

Bottom Line: Concussions can occur when the brain strikes the skull wall. No equipment can claim to prevent concussions, however the Q-Collar is clinically validated to better protect the brain from the effects of head impacts.

FAQ

Look for headaches, dizziness, and confusion immediately following a hit.

It has not been shown to reduce concussions (no equipment is). However, it is designed to reduce the internal "slosh" that causes the brain to strike the skull.

Stop play immediately and follow a medical return-to-play protocol.
