This week, athletes wearing the Q-Collar shined in the biggest moments across sports. Check out some of their highlights below.
2024 PLL Draft Presented by Q-Collar:
- This week, the 2024 PLL Draft presented by Q-Collar resulted in three athletes wearing the Q-Collar being taken within the first six picks:
- Duke University Attackman Brennan O’Neill was selected by the Denver Outlaws with the 1st Overall Pick.
- University of Maryland Defenseman Ajax Zappitello was selected by the Maryland Whipsnakes with the 3rd Overall Pick.
- Notre Dame Attackman Pat Kavanagh was selected by the Boston Cannons with the 6th Overall Pick.
NCAA Men’s Lacrosse:
- Duke University Attackman Brennan O’Neill scored 2 goals (#1 & #2) and logged 2 assists in the Blue Devils’ 19-7 victory over the University of Utah in the First Round of the 2024 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. During the game, O’Neill became the 4th player in NCAA history to score 200 career goals and 100 career assists. For his performance throughout the season, O’Neill was named a First-Team All-American and a Tewaaraton Award Finalist.
- On the opposition, University of Utah Attackman Ryan Stines scored a goal and logged 2 assists, including this back-door feed, in the Utes’ 19-7 loss to Duke University.
- Notre Dame Attackman Pat Kavanagh netted a hat-trick, which included this score off a transition as well as this jumping finish, and logged 2 assists in the Fighting Irish’s 14-9 victory over the University of Albany in the First Round of the 2024 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. For his performance throughout the season, Kavanagh was named a First-Team All-American and a Tewaaraton Award Finalist.
- University of Albany Attackman Silas Richmond scored 5 total goals, which included this barreling finish, this diving snipe, and this shot between the legs which made SportsCenter's Top-10 Plays, across the Great Danes’ two NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament games, an Opening Round victory over Sacred Heart University and a First Round loss to Notre Dame. Richmond also recorded 3 total assists, which included this behind-the-back feed, across the Great Danes’ two matchups.
- Princeton University Attackman Nate Kabiri netted a hat-trick, which included this top-corner snipe, in the Tigers’ 16-8 loss to the University of Maryland in the First Round of the 2024 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. Kabiri’s teammate, Attackman Colin Burns, also netted a goal in the loss.
- On the other side, University of Maryland Defenseman Ajax Zappitello recovered 1 ground ball and caused 3 turnovers in the win. For his performance throughout the season, Zappitello was awarded the Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor and named a First-Team All-American.
- University of Michigan Defenseman Cathal Roberts scored a goal and recovered 1 ground ball in the Wolverines’ 16-11 loss to the University of Denver in the First Round of the 2024 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament.
NCAA Women’s Lacrosse:
- University of Maryland Midfielder Shaylan Ahearn scored 2 total goals, recorded 1 total assist and recorded 19 total draw controls across the Terps’ two matchups, a 17-1 victory over Robert Morris University and a 17-7 victory over James Madison University in the first two rounds of the 2024 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. Ahearn’s teammate, Attacker Victor Hensch, scored 1 total goal across the two contests. Goalkeeper Emily Sterling recorded 6 saves and the win against James Madison University. For their respective performances throughout the season, Ahearn and Sterling were both named Third-Team All-Americans and Sterling was awarded the Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor.
- Syracuse University Defender Katie Goodale recovered 2 ground balls, caused 1 turnover and recorded 2 draw controls in the Orange’s 15-10 win over Stony Brook University. For her performance throughout the season, Goodale was named a First-Team All-American.
MLS Soccer:
- San Jose Earthquakes Striker Jeremy Ebobisse started and contributed to the Earthquakes’ offensive efforts in their 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rapids.
NWSL Soccer:
- Angel City FC Defender Megan Reid and Midfielder Rocky Rodriguez both started and played all 90 minutes of Angel City’s 1-0 loss to the Houston Dash. For her performance, Rodriguez was named Player of the Match.
- Portland Thorns FC Defender Megan Klingenberg subbed-into and contributed to Portland’s defensive efforts in their 4-0 victory over Seattle Reign FC.
MLB Baseball:
- San Francisco Giants Catcher Patrick Bailey went 1 for 3 with a RBI single in the one game he appeared in this week, a 5-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
